On April 6, during the national day of mourning in Ukraine, the Ukrainian community organized a silent performance in front of the Basilica of Our Lady in Valencia to honor the memory of children killed in the Russian attack in Kremenchuk.
Organizers stated, "This event became a profound artistic testimony and a human cry that is hard to forget."
The event began with a prayer. Father Álvaro, the Basilica priest, addressed the crowd in Spanish and held a memorial service, explaining to those present, "why we are here – without slogans and banners, only with pain in our hearts."
During the performance, not only lullabies were played, but also actual audio recordings of the Kremenchuk tragedy – voices of parents and children, screams, warnings of a second missile strike.
Organizers noted, "This was one of the most painful moments that conveyed the harsh reality of war without embellishments."
Participants collectively recited the "Our Father" prayer, followed by a moment of silence.
This event was initiated by the Ukrainian diaspora in Valencia. The performance was created and executed by Ukrainian volunteer, activist, and director Pavlo Bekezin.
Up to 200 people from Valencia and other cities in Spain (Alcoy, Sagunto, Denia, Gandia, San Pedro del Pinatar, Cullera) participated, including attendees from Poland and other European countries.
Spaniards, as well as random passersby, joined in, listened, returned with toys, embraced, and cried. Tears were everywhere; it was a shared sorrow among nations.
At the initiative of temple servants, memorial services for each child lost will be held at the Basilica of Our Lady over the following week, each evening by name.
"We thank Valencia. For your embraces. For your sorrow. For your actions. But the time for sympathy has passed. It is time for decisive actions," the community stated.
