On October 23, Ukraine welcomed the return of 1000 bodies, allegedly belonging to Ukrainian soldiers, as per Russian sources. This was reported by the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War.
Investigators and experts from the Ministry of Internal Affairs will conduct the necessary examinations to identify the repatriated remains shortly.
The repatriation efforts were coordinated by the Coordination Headquarters, the Joint Center at the Security Service, Armed Forces of Ukraine, Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ombudsman’s Office, the Secretariat for Missing Persons, State Emergency Service, and other security sector entities.
The Coordination Headquarters also expressed gratitude to the International Committee of the Red Cross for their assistance.
The Armed Forces are responsible for transporting the repatriated remains to specialized state institutions and coordinating the handover to law enforcement and forensic experts within the Ministry of Health.
