The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has confirmed the downing of a Russian Su-30SM fighter jet. This was reported on the General Staff's official Facebook page.
"Intelligence from the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine intercepted communications indicating that both engines of the Russian invaders' Su-30SM caught fire, and the crew was ejected while performing missions in the northwestern part of temporarily occupied Crimea," the statement reads.
The General Staff suggested that the enemy likely shot down its own multirole fighter while repelling an attack by UAVs using air defense systems.
Earlier, spokesman for the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Dmytro Pletenchuk, stated in a live broadcast on the "Apostrophe" channel that Russians, while repelling attacks from the Armed Forces of Ukraine, likely shot down their own aircraft.
