Kyivstar, the largest mobile operator in Ukraine, is launching a trial of the innovative Direct to Cell technology for its subscribers. The initial phase will focus on SMS messaging. Anyone interested can register to participate.
The testing will take place from October to November 2025, with the full rollout scheduled for the 4th quarter of 2025, allowing users to send and receive messages via satellite communication. In the future, Kyivstar plans to add mobile internet and voice services through VoLTE.
The operator has noted that during the trial period, Direct to Cell will be provided at no additional cost. Currently, the technology is only available on Android devices while awaiting confirmation from Apple.
It’s also important to mention that Direct to Cell will function solely in open areas.
As a reminder, Direct to Cell is a Starlink technology that connects your smartphone to satellites acting as mobile communication base stations in space. This enables connectivity even in locations where terrestrial signals cannot reach.
