As the end of support for Windows 10 approaches, Microsoft is trying to cater to users who are reluctant to upgrade by offering various incentives. This time, the company is introducing the possibility of purchasing security updates, known as Extended Security Updates (ESU), for 1000 Microsoft Rewards points.
Support for Windows 10 will end on October 14, 2025, but according to StatCounter, this version of the operating system remains the most popular among all Microsoft OS, accounting for 53.19%. Meanwhile, the latest version, Windows 11, holds only 43.22%. Thus, over half of the users can take advantage of this opportunity for free.
For 1000 Microsoft Rewards points, users can receive additional security updates that will protect them from critical vulnerabilities for an additional year, until October 13, 2026.
If you don’t have 1000 Microsoft points, earning them is not difficult. You can use Bing for searches, especially through Microsoft Edge, shop at the Microsoft Store, play games through the Xbox app, and generally engage actively with the company’s services.
Alternatively, users can purchase a year of ESU updates for $30. After the end of support for Windows 10, users will have the option to choose from available options, after which their PCs will be automatically registered for ESU.
Organizations can also obtain ESU for $61 per device to receive critical and important updates monthly for one year. The subscription can be renewed annually for up to three years, but the cost will increase each time.
