The city of Biuryn in Poland hosted a significant World Championship in hand-to-hand combat, gathering athletes from 14 countries, including England, Uzbekistan, the Netherlands, Poland, Germany, Denmark, and the Czech Republic.
Ukrainian officer Andriy Savenko clinched first place in the under 80 kg category (technical demonstration), becoming the world champion in his discipline.
Andriy Savenko is a world champion in military pentathlon, winner of the World Cup in jiu-jitsu, and defender of the Donetsk airport.
Earlier this March, he triumphed at the Ukrainian Championship in hand-to-hand combat dedicated to the memory of Ukrainian Hero Mykola Shapoval, after which he joined the national team of Ukraine.
In addition to his sporting achievements, the officer is actively involved in patriotic education for youth: since 2015, he has been organizing annual sports tournaments in honor of fallen Ukrainian Heroes.
At the World Championship in hand-to-hand combat, Ukrainian athlete Mykola Hryhoriak also won in the "full contact" category, dedicating his victory to Ukraine's military intelligence.
