Starting August 7, the World Games 2025 will take place in Chengdu, China — a prestigious international competition in non-Olympic sports. For ten days, the strongest athletes on the planet will compete in 34 different disciplines.
The Ukrainian national team will consist of 108 athletes representing 21 sports. Among them are 30 athletes from the capital who will compete in 12 disciplines, as reported by the Department of Youth and Sports of Kyiv City Administration.
Among the Kyiv athletes are world and European champions, as well as newcomers. The capital's athletes will compete in the following sports:
- Sports Acrobatic: Yevfrosiniya Kryvytska, Ivan Labunets, Ivan Horlach, Sofroniy Davidenko
- Muay Thai: Anastasia Mykhailenko
- Squash: Dmytro Shcherbakov, Alina Bushma
- Trampoline: Andrii Sokolov
- Water Skiing: Volodymyr Chuba, Sofia Sokolova
- Sambo Wrestling: Oleksandr Voropaev
- Underwater Sports: Anastasia Makarenko, Sofia Lamakh, Anna Yakovleva, Yelyzaveta Hrechyhina, Sofia Hrechko, Yevheniya Tymoshenko, Oleksiy Zakharov, Serhii Smishchenko, Oleksandr Kuzmenko, David Yeliseev
- WAKO Kickboxing: Daryna Ivanova
- Powerlifting: Larysa Solovyeva
- Dragon Boat Racing: Yurii Bardashevskyi, Sizhiana Zhyhailo, Oleksandr Kalmus, Kateryna Petrenko
- Breaking: Oleg Kuznetsov
- Canoeing and Kayaking: Maksym Redko
"The World Games are a chance to showcase oneself on an international stage, to demonstrate the will to win, strength of spirit, and skill in sports not included in the Olympic program," the Department states.
The World Games, which have been held since 1981, occur once every four years and have been under the patronage of the International Olympic Committee since 2001.
From August 7 to 18, the competition will feature about 3,500 participants from over 100 countries, showcasing 34 sports and 60 disciplines. A total of 256 medal sets will be awarded during the tournament.
In 2022, in Birmingham (USA), the Ukrainian national team won 45 medals, including 16 golds, finishing third overall. In total, Ukrainians have claimed 128 medals in the history of these games: 58 gold, 59 silver, and 54 bronze. Ukraine ranks ninth in the historical medal tally.
