On June 6 at 6 PM, the PEN Ukraine space (Kyiv, Lukyanivska St., 14-A) will host the opening of an exhibition by military photographer Dmytro "Orest" Kozatsky titled "I Hate to Photograph". Details about the event are posted on the Facebook page.
During the opening, there will be a public conversation with Dmytro, where guests can ask questions and learn about the photographer's role in war and how photography becomes a means to capture truth and freeze time.
The moderator will be Alim Aliyev, a journalist, human rights activist, researcher, and cultural project manager. He is the deputy director of the Ukrainian Institute and the founder of the literary project "Crimean Fig".
Dmytro "Orest" Kozatsky is a Ukrainian veteran and military photographer, known for his iconic photos from "Azovstal", which have become the voice of Mariupol worldwide. After a long defense, he was captured by Russian forces and released in 2022. He continues to engage in active public and cultural activities. His works have received numerous awards, including two International Photography Awards. The photograph "Light Will Win" was recognized as one of the best of 2022 by The Guardian and was included in Time's list of the "100 Best Photos of 2022".
Participation requires registration and a voluntary charitable contribution.
As part of this event, the organizers support Dmytro Kozatsky's fundraising for the medical service of "Azov".
