Call to Action: The Ukrainian community in Oslo demanded the release of “Azovstal” defenders

The event aimed to draw attention from Norwegian society and the international community to the plight of Ukrainian prisoners.

“Many defenders of Mariupol, those who stood at Azovstal, and brave marines are currently held captive by Russia. They are tortured. They are denied medical assistance. They lack access to international protection,” - emphasized representatives of the Ukrainian community in Norway.

During the protest, activists put forward several demands, including: the immediate release of all Ukrainian prisoners of war, the return of “Azovstal” defenders and marines home, the unconditional adherence to international humanitarian law regarding the treatment of prisoners, and justice for all who sacrificed themselves for Ukraine.

“They cannot scream now. But we must scream for them! Our heroes are not forgotten. Our heroes must come home! There is no freedom without them. There is no victory without them. Glory to Ukraine! Glory to the heroes!”, - passionately addressed the community representatives to the audience and the global community.

The protest was organized by the Ukrainian community in Norway with the support of the charitable foundation “Heart in Action”.

The organizers expressed gratitude to the speakers who supported the event with their speeches. Among them were the Ambassador of Ukraine to Norway Oleksiy Havrysh, political advisor of Amnesty International Norway Ane Tusvik Bonde, Ukrainian soldier Bohdan who was personally detained by Russia, activist from Mariupol Danilo Rebro, and activist Marina Mykhalchuk, whose brother is still held captive.

“We also thank our talented Anna Handzii for her powerful voice and the singers from the “Zhuravlina” and “Kvitka” choirs!” - added the organizers in their statement.
