The State Service for Medicines and Drug Control is set to inspect pharmacies across Ukraine to evaluate the qualifications of their staff.
This initiative follows the discovery of insufficient numbers of qualified pharmacists in some establishments.
This was reported by representatives of the Ministry of Health.
It is emphasized that only individuals with pharmaceutical education are authorized to dispense medications, as this is crucial for patient safety.
Furthermore, data regarding pharmacists must be entered into the electronic health care system.
Pharmacies that have failed to provide information regarding the presence of qualified staff in the electronic system will be subject to inspection. The State Service will assess whether these establishments are operating in accordance with their licensing conditions.
“This is a vital step towards improving the quality of pharmaceutical services and patient safety. Every patient should be confident that they are dealing with a qualified professional,” stated Health Minister Viktor Lyashko.
It is worth noting that scheduled inspections of pharmacies will resume in January 2025, focusing particularly on those operating within hospitals.
