In 2025, JSC «Ukrainian Railways» suffered significant losses, losing 66 rail cars, 60 of which were due to attacks. Currently, over 100 passenger cars are under repair.
This was reported by the chairman of the board, Oleksandr Pertzovsky, during a press briefing.
«This year, the war alone has cost us 60 passenger cars. Additionally, 6 cars have reached their maximum age, making their continued operation unsafe. We are also actively repairing our rolling stock – at this moment, more than 100 passenger cars are undergoing repairs», Pertzovsky stated.
He also highlighted that this year, 66 new cars have been introduced to the tracks, compensating for the losses. For the upcoming year, the company has preliminarily contracted for another 100 cars.
«We believe that a budget law will soon be passed, which will provide funding for the purchase of 100 rail cars for Ukrainian Railways», he added.
According to UZ, today one rail car, on average, carries 10,164 passengers annually. Next year, this figure is planned to increase to 10,600 passengers.
