A new publication titled “The GUR Island. Secrets. Operations. War” has been released, shedding light on the most significant aspects of the Ukrainian Military Intelligence's operations.
According to the press service, journalist Maksym Butchenko's book unfolds the details of the intelligence history: the people, decisions, and key operations that have influenced the course of the Russo-Ukrainian conflict since 2014 to the present day.
This work captures the evolution of Ukrainian military intelligence: from its early steps in the 1990s to contemporary complex operations that have altered global perceptions of intelligence agencies.
For the first time, testimonies from intelligence officers and commanders reveal previously classified details about the battles for Hostomel, the creation of the world's first drone fleet, special operations of maritime drones MAGURA, daring raids into the Belgorod region of Russia, precision strikes over 2,000 km away, and Ukrainian intelligence actions against war criminals in temporarily occupied territories.
The book also features insights from various leaders of intelligence throughout the years, such as Oleksandr Skipalskyi, Oleksandr Halaka, and Valeriy Kondratiuk, discussing the development of GUR MO Ukraine from independence to the full-scale war.
“A country of free people, an army of brave warriors, a society that has fought for its dignity for centuries, proved to be a formidable opponent to the bloodthirsty army of the Kremlin’s fuhrer. Ukrainian intelligence officers have always been at the forefront of the struggle against the Russian enemy. The battles of our special forces in the land, sea, and air, at the frontline and deep in enemy territory, in the informational and cyber sphere — all this is documented in this book,” wrote the Chief of GUR MO Ukraine, Lieutenant General Kyrylo Budanov, in the preface.
