The company "Ukrzaliznytsia" has signed a new agreement with the Austrian manufacturer Voestalpine Rail Technology GmbH for the supply of 10,000 tons of rails, which will enable the repair of 80 km of railway tracks. This was reported by the Ministry of Communities and Territories Development.
Thanks to successful tenders, costs have been reduced, allowing for the signing of an additional contract. This will ensure consistent rail supplies for major repairs, which is crucial for the development of railway infrastructure.
The procurement is funded by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) as part of the "Emergency Support for the Ukrainian Railway" project.
In total, following this agreement, approximately 46,000 tons of rails will be supplied, allowing for the repair of 358 km of tracks, the ministry states.
The first batch of new rails is expected to arrive after the completion of major supplies, around May 2026.
These additional rails will help complete capital repairs, increase train speeds, and enhance the capacity of the railway network, which is vital for the stability of freight transport and infrastructure development."
