A new memorial has been unveiled in Irpin, symbolizing the bravery of local residents in the face of adversity. This monument illustrates how the people of Borodyanka, Irpin, and Hostomel united to withstand enemy attacks.
The project was designed by UVT Group architects led by Oleksii Agafonov, along with Andrii AUM and Agafonov. It features a multi-layered metal shield representing the indomitable spirit of the community.
While restoring Bagirova Street and Hostomel Highway, the idea arose that the city needed not only new roads and buildings but also a symbol to commemorate its struggles.
The team stated, «We felt compelled to create a memorial that would symbolize the resistance of resilient people against the enemy».
Thus, the idea of the memorial — a shield representing the unity of the residents of Borodyanka, Irpin, and Hostomel in their fight — was born.
The project received support from KODA, led by Yaroslav Yanovych, and the Irpin City Military Administration.
