The National Bank of Ukraine has added a new commemorative coin titled "Year of the Horse" with a denomination of 5 hryvnias to its collection. The coin will be circulated and available for purchase starting November 4. This was announced by the bank's press service on November 3.
According to Chinese astrology, the year 2026 will be represented by the Fire Horse sign.
"Thus, our coin 'Year of the Fire Horse' is dedicated to this symbol. The horse is the seventh sign of the eastern calendar, embodying energy, vitality, independence, endurance, and determination. It also represents dynamism, decisiveness, and the quest for freedom," the statement reads.

Coin Design

The reverse side of the coin features a stylized symbol of the eastern calendar for 2026 — a horse against the backdrop of a horseshoe, symbolizing luck and protection. Below this image are three dots symbolizing the continuation of the struggle.
"The horse's mane conveys the dynamics of movement 'with the wind' or 'against the wind' — a metaphor for inner strength, resistance, and the desire for freedom," the NBU explained.
On the obverse side, twelve symbols of the eastern calendar are depicted around the edge, while a stylized clock with a hand pointing to the leading zodiac sign for 2026 is placed in the center.
This design was created by artist Marina Kuts and sculptor Volodymyr Atamanchuk.
