At the AUSA 2025 exhibition in Washington, AM General unveiled a groundbreaking version of its 105 mm mobile howitzer, the Hawkeye. The previous model successfully underwent combat trials in Ukraine, paving the way for this new development.

The new Hawkeye features an upgraded chassis and a new powertrain, enhancing its combat capabilities. The company describes this howitzer as "light, maneuverable, robust, and lethal" for contemporary military operations.

It is claimed that the system can transition from travel mode to combat mode, fire, and reposition in just 90 seconds. This allows artillery crews to strike and relocate before enemy sensors or drones can detect their firing position.

According to AM General, the system is based on a patented soft recoil technology that reduces recoil force by 60%. This breakthrough allows the integration of large-caliber weapons onto an agile platform, creating a new class of highly mobile artillery with exceptional accuracy.
The Hawkeye has a standard firing range of 11.6 km, which can be extended to 19.5 km with rocket-assisted projectiles. The howitzer can achieve up to eight rounds per minute for three minutes, after which the rate drops to three rounds per minute.

AM General emphasized that the design updates and performance enhancements are directly based on extensive field testing in Ukraine, where the previous versions of the Hawkeye system were utilized by the Ukrainian Armed Forces in actual combat scenarios.

Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that by 2026, Ukraine and the EU would match Russia in artillery production. He is confident that in the future, Ukraine's artillery capabilities could surpass those of its adversaries.
