The National Bank of Ukraine has decided to withdraw 10 kopeck coins from cash circulation, although they will still be valid for transactions. This was stated by the NBU.
Retail networks, banks, and service enterprises will continue to accept 10 kopeck coins for financial transactions. Citizens will not need to submit or exchange them.
As of October 1, the NBU will no longer mint 10 kopeck coins and will cease supplying them to bank cashiers. Once they reach the banks, these coins will not be returned to circulation but will be withdrawn and sent to the NBU for disposal.
“Considering the high volume of 10 kopeck coins in circulation and the decreasing demand, we decided to gradually withdraw them, which will reduce costs associated with production and processing,” the NBU explained.
It is worth noting that 1, 2, and 5 kopeck coins were withdrawn from circulation on October 1, 2019, and 25 kopecks were withdrawn on October 1, 2020. After the withdrawal of 10 kopeck coins, the smallest denomination will be 50 kopecks.
