Polish border guards have begun collecting biometric data from citizens ahead of the launch of a new border crossing system set to go live in October.

This was announced by Andriy Demchenko, spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, during a news broadcast.

According to him, the EU had previously informed that a new border control system is being prepared, which will apply to all Schengen countries and may initially slow down the processing of citizens.

«Poland has started testing the new system to ensure it operates more efficiently and quickly, without causing queues during processing. This system is expected to be fully operational by October, thus we can anticipate increased waiting times for border crossing, as biometric data from individuals entering Poland will need to be recorded», said the spokesperson of the State Border Guard Service.

In this context, Demchenko advised travelers to allocate more time for crossing the border into Poland.

We remind you that from October 12, the European Union will begin implementing a new digital control system, EES (Entry/Exit System), for third-country nationals, which will gradually replace passport stamping and collect biometric data.
