Ukrzaliznytsia has launched a new accessible train car that can be reserved in advance. In the absence of specific requests, the compartments will operate in a standard manner.

This car represents the first experimental model fully adapted for passengers using wheelchairs.

The compartments are designed to accommodate 6 sleeping spots instead of the usual 4. Each compartment provides comfortable space for two wheelchair users and two companions. If inclusive seating is not required during the trip, up to 6 passengers can travel in the compartment.

Key features of the new train car include:

  • Electric lift with a capacity of up to 300 kg;
  • Wider doors and corridors for easy movement;
  • Navigation in Braille and contrasting signage;
  • Spacious restroom with shower, SOS button, and child-friendly features;
  • Restroom occupancy indicator;
  • Individual USB and Type-C charging ports;
  • Seats with adjustable backrests;
  • Separate lighting controls in the compartment;
  • Video surveillance in key areas of the car.

This car was produced at the Bahmach car depot, with all work completed over three months by company specialists.

Before the modernization, the Ukrzaliznytsia team consulted with organizations specializing in assistance for people with disabilities, allowing them to address real user needs.

This initiative is part of Ukrzaliznytsia's ongoing efforts to implement barrier-free solutions in rail transport, including improving access to platforms, navigation, and online services.

Ukrzaliznytsia emphasizes that this car is just the first step in a broader program aimed at creating a barrier-free environment on the railway. The company plans to expand similar solutions to enhance travel comfort for all passenger categories.
