Ukraine has initiated an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council in response to the recent Russian shelling.

This was reported by Ukraine's Permanent Representative to the UN, Andrii Melnyk.

UN Security Council Meeting Due to Russian Attack

«I have just sent a letter to the President of the UN Security Council requesting an urgent meeting in light of the escalating missile terror from Russia against the peaceful residents of Ukraine,» the permanent representative stated.

He noted that just last night, a massive attack from Russia claimed the lives of many Kyiv residents, with over a hundred injured, and once again heavily damaged residential buildings.

«We are dealing not just with war crimes against civilians that the Moscow regime commits daily and nightly.

These are crimes against humanity, which require not only condemnation but also decisive reactions and practical actions from the international community, primarily from the UN Security Council,» emphasized Melnyk.

The diplomat added that on Tuesday, he would meet with the President of the Security Council, Ambassador Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett of Guyana, to discuss further steps in accordance with the UN Charter.

«I hope that the members of the Security Council will respond firmly to Russia's criminal actions. It's time to put an end to the Kremlin's impunity,» he added.
