Billionaire Elon Musk, who previously led the U.S. Department of Government Efficiency, has declared his departure from the political scene to return to business.
This information was reported by the Washington Post.
Musk intends to focus on his core business ventures - Tesla and SpaceX.
This decision follows public backlash and declining profits associated with his political activities.
Over the past year, Musk actively supported political initiatives of President Donald Trump, investing over $288 million into his campaign, as well as into the establishment of the Department of Government Efficiency, which dealt with significant cutbacks in the federal government.
Musk is also deeply concerned about his personal safety, having not anticipated such a level of negative reaction against himself and his companies.
“I believe I have done enough,” Musk stated, adding that he plans to spend “much less” on politics unless a specific reason arises.
Now, Musk's attention is directed towards the development of his main businesses.
At Tesla, Musk is preparing for the launch of an autonomous vehicle in June. There is also a Cybercab in development, which is a driverless car without a steering wheel or pedals.
SpaceX plans to conduct a test launch of the new generation Starship rocket next week.
Musk is also working on preparations for an unmanned mission to Mars scheduled for 2026. Additionally, the company continues its collaboration with NASA as part of the Artemis program, which aims to land astronauts on the Moon by 2027.
It is noted that Musk's exit from political activities could be a significant loss for the Republican Party, which relied on his financial support and organizational resources.
