«Once there were three brothers: Kiy, Shchek, and Khoriv, along with their sister Lybid. Kiy sat on a hill where today is Borychiv Hill, Shchek on the hill now called Shchekavytsia, and Khoriv on the hill named Khorivtsi. In honor of their elder brother, they founded a city and named it Kyiv», — wrote Nestor the Chronicler in the «Tale of Bygone Years».

Every year, on the last Sunday of May, Kyiv proudly celebrates its City Day. This holiday has become an inseparable part of the capital's life, and it is hard to believe that its tradition began only at the end of the last century, when in 1982 the 1500th anniversary of our city was celebrated.
