The Ministry of Health of Ukraine has announced the updated list of medications and medical products eligible for reimbursement. These can now be obtained at pharmacies for free or with a partial payment using an electronic prescription as part of the Medical Guarantee Program. This update is part of the government's efforts to improve access to medical services.
The order regarding the new lists of medications and medical products eligible for reimbursement will take effect on September 30.
The 'Affordable Medicines' program has added 85 new medications. The main categories include:
- For pregnant women and new mothers — 3 medications;
- Thyroid diseases — 6 medications;
- Glaucoma — 8 medications;
- Childhood illnesses — 5 medications;
- Other chronic diseases — 61 medications for cardiovascular, respiratory, metabolic, psychiatric, and neurological disorders.
New medications include: indapamide, latanoprost, levothyroxine, methyldopa, timolol, torasemide, folic acid.
Consequently, the reimbursement program now includes 705 items! The expanded list comprises:
- 595 medications
- 38 types of insulin
- 30 combined medications
- 42 glucose test strips
The program now covers areas such as cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, diabetes (including insulin), chronic lower respiratory diseases, mental health disorders, and medical products for diabetes type I patients.
How to use the reimbursement program?
- Consult your doctor to receive an electronic prescription.
- Visit a pharmacy marked with 'Affordable Medicines Available.'
- Receive medications for free or with partial payment.
Note that starting from July 1, 2025, the 'Affordable Medicines' program should be operational in every pharmacy across Ukraine.
What to do if you are refused at the pharmacy?
If the pharmacy does not have a contract with the NHSU, report to the Ministry of Health hotline at 0800 505 201. Your inquiry will be forwarded to the State Service of Medicines for further investigation. If the pharmacy has a contract but does not dispense the medications as per the electronic prescription, inform the NHSU (contact center: 16-77). According to the Reimbursement Order, the sale of medications and medical products included in the program is permitted at previous prices for 30 calendar days from the start date.
