In Kyiv, at the Medical Center of the National Guard of Ukraine, a unique combined reconstructive surgery was performed for a soldier who suffered a serious facial injury due to an explosion in April 2024.

This operation was made possible through a tripartite Memorandum of Cooperation between the NGU Medical Center, the charity fund 'Doctors for Heroes', and the company 'IMATECH MEDICAL'.

The surgical team was led by prominent researchers from the O.O. Bohomolets National Medical University: Professor Yuriy Chepurnyi and Professor Oksana Petrenko. The anesthesiology part of the operation was managed by a team under the leadership of Professor Vsevolod Steblyuk.

The specialists successfully reconstructed the zygomatic bone using a custom implant made of biocompatible PEEK material.

The next step involved placing a custom scleral implant in preparation for a future ocular prosthesis. This preserved the eyeball's function as a supporting structure and ensured the future prosthesis's mobility.

'IMATECH MEDICAL' produced a patient-specific implant and participated in planning the surgery as well as technical support after implantation.

The key support was provided by the 'Doctors for Heroes' fund, which accompanies injured servicemen at all stages of treatment and rehabilitation, engaging leading specialists from healthcare institutions of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.

The patient is currently feeling well, under medical supervision, and preparing for the next stages of treatment.
