The Security Service of Ukraine reported the arrest of an FSB agent in the Dnipropetrovsk region, who was recruited via a dating website.
Investigators found that he was planning terrorist acts in the port city.
A 42-year-old unemployed man, who was hiding from mobilization, came under the FSB's radar while searching for a partner online.
“During the conversation, he was approached by a ‘freelance employee’ of the Russian special services who offered him a closer acquaintance,” the SBU noted.
Later, the woman claimed to live in the temporarily occupied Kakhovka, and manipulated him into trusting her before passing him to a FSB officer.
After recruitment, the agent received detailed instructions on spying on the Ukrainian forces defending the city.
“To gather intelligence, the man navigated the city, avoiding checkpoints, and secretly collected information about the Defense Forces, which he immediately relayed to the Russian operative. It is known that the occupiers planned to use an FPV drone to deliver a homemade bomb for a terrorist act,” the special service reported.
The SBU counterintelligence revealed the perpetrator in time, documented his crimes, and detained him at his place of residence. Measures were also taken to secure the positions of the Defense Forces.
During the search, a smartphone with evidence of his work for the enemy was seized from the detainee.
The Security Service filed charges against him for treason in wartime conditions.
The perpetrator is being held in custody without the right to bail, facing life imprisonment with asset confiscation.
