According to the Security Service, a Russian agent received a 15-year prison sentence with asset confiscation for committing arson in Kyiv.
The perpetrator targeted relay cabinets along the main railway lines of Ukrzaliznytsia in the capital.
The investigation revealed that a 33-year-old Kyiv resident, previously imprisoned for theft, collaborated with Russian intelligence services.
The recidivist was drawn to «easy earnings» found in specialized Telegram channels.
Following the instructions, he identified a relay cabinet that ensured uninterrupted train movement through the capital.
Subsequently, he poured a flammable mixture on the railway equipment, ignited it, and filmed the incident to report back to his handlers.
Law enforcement apprehended him within hours after the arson in November 2024.
Based on the evidence collected, the court found him guilty of committing sabotage under wartime conditions.
Efforts are ongoing to hold accountable those who ordered the crime, currently located in Russia.
The investigation was carried out by the Security Service personnel in Kyiv under the guidance of the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office.
