In the capital of Ukraine, law enforcement officials arrested a taxi driver found in possession of illegal substances, including amphetamine and cannabis. The suspect could face up to twelve years in prison.
Late in the evening, police stopped a Toyota in the Pechersk district, where the driver claimed to work as a taxi driver. Upon investigation, it was revealed he had prohibited substances. A forensic team was dispatched to document the incident.
Authorities found that the offender was a resident of the Kyiv region, combining his taxi job with drug dealing, delivering narcotics to his ‘clients’ and selling them via postal services.
In the rented vehicle of the suspect, plastic bags containing amphetamine and cannabis, scales, mobile phones, envelopes, and around 12,000 hryvnias were discovered. Additionally, a search of his residence uncovered a package of dried mushrooms, powdery substances, and plants which are currently undergoing expert examination.
The suspect was detained under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
Investigators from the Pechersk police department, under the guidance of the Pechersk district prosecutor's office, charged the suspect under Part 3 of Article 307 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine for illegal acquisition, storage, and transportation of psychotropic substances on a large scale and illegal acquisition, storage, and transportation of narcotic drugs.
The court has placed the man in custody with the possibility of posting bail set at 900,000 hryvnias. The drug dealer faces up to 12 years in prison with asset forfeiture.
