The Security Service of Ukraine has apprehended an agent who was tasked by the enemy to disrupt a critical railway route in the Kharkiv region.
According to the investigation, Russian operatives planned to detonate tracks to derail a cargo train of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
They recruited a 54-year-old local mechanic who had attracted the attention of Russian intelligence by posting anti-Ukrainian comments on social media.
Initially, the agent planted a homemade explosive device under the railway ties, but the explosion did not derail the train.
His next task was to place another explosive device under a military convoy.
SBU agents foiled the enemy's plans, preventing a new explosion and detaining the agent at the preparation stage.
The investigation revealed that after recruitment, the Russians provided the agent with instructions for assembling explosives and delivered materials for its production, including sensors and 8 kilograms of plastic explosives.
To transport the components, the occupiers used a drone that dropped the cargo at a predetermined location in the Kharkiv area.
During searches, a smartphone containing evidence of collaboration with the enemy was seized from the detainee.
