A tragic traffic accident occurred in Kyiv, leading to the death of a pedestrian born in 1965. Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances. A criminal case has been initiated. 
The accident took place around midnight on the Stolichne Highway in the Holosiivskyi district. Preliminary reports indicate that a 29-year-old driver of a Lexus hit a pedestrian who was crossing the road at an unauthorized location.
As a result of the injuries sustained, the man died at the scene.
After the collision, the vehicle lost control, veered onto the roadside, collided with a utility pole, and caught fire. Medical assistance was provided to the driver. Police also conducted a sobriety test, which revealed a blood alcohol level of 0.69 promille.
The driver was arrested under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. All circumstances surrounding the fatal accident are being established.
The accident investigation department has initiated a criminal case under Part 3 of Article 286-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – violation of road safety rules by individuals driving under the influence, which resulted in the death of the victim. The penalty for this offense can lead to imprisonment for up to ten years.
Kyiv police urge drivers to be vigilant when driving, monitor road conditions, respond appropriately to changes, avoid distractions while driving, and adhere to traffic regulations. Remember, neglecting any of these rules can lead to accidents with tragic consequences.
