At the railway station «Ovruch» in the Zhytomyr region, a tragic incident occurred, resulting in the death of a border guard and two civilians, with two soldiers and ten civilians injured. The attacker died in the ambulance. This was reported by the Zhytomyr Regional Police on Facebook.
"The explosion happened around 10:50 on the platform of the railway station in Ovruch. According to preliminary reports, four people have died, and another 12 have been injured," the statement reads.
According to the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, the explosion resulted in the death of a border guard and two civilians, while two military personnel and ten civilians sustained injuries. The attacker died in the ambulance.
«The explosion was carried out by a man during a document check in a controlled border area at the railway station «Ovruch». The victims received immediate first aid. The individual who detonated the explosive device died in the ambulance,» the report states.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the perpetrator was a resident of Kharkiv and had recently been detained for attempting to violate the state border. Urgent investigative actions are currently underway.
Ivanna Siletska, the press officer of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Zhytomyr region, reported that the explosion occurred around 10:50 on the station platform.
"It has been preliminarily established that the border guard service personnel were checking documents of train passengers. At that moment, one of the men produced an explosive device, after which the explosion occurred. As a result, a 23-year-old resident of Kharkiv, who had the explosives, died. Fatal injuries were also sustained by three women aged 29, 58, and 82, residents of the Korosten district. Among the deceased is the border guard," Ivanna Siletska explained.
