The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and the National Police have thwarted a new attempt by Russian aggressors to destabilize the situation in the capital of Ukraine.
As a result of proactive measures taken in central Kyiv, an FSB agent was arrested while attempting to set fire to the building of the Institute of National Memory on the enemy's orders.
To commit the crime, the suspect purchased a 5-liter bottle of gasoline, with which he planned to discreetly enter the government facility at night.
Then, following instructions from the Russian special services, he intended to pour fuel on the building's window, ignite it, and record the fire on his phone.
It has been reported that the occupiers planned to use this video for conducting special information operations about the alleged existence of a pro-Kremlin underground in Kyiv.
SBU employees timely uncovered the hostile intentions and disrupted them. The Russian agent was detained in a hostel near the Institute, where he was staying to conduct reconnaissance around the government establishment and choose a "favorable" moment for the arson.
The investigation revealed that the executor of the FSB's order was a 20-year-old resident of Vinnytsia, who had caught the attention of the occupiers while searching for "easy money" in Telegram channels.
After recruitment, he first completed a "control" task: using an incendiary mixture, he destroyed a minivan of the Defense Forces in his hometown.
Later, the FSB dispatched the agent to Kyiv, where he was arrested by the SBU.
During searches, a smartphone containing evidence of his work for the Russian Federation was seized from the detainee.

Currently, the suspect has been informed of charges under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:

  •  Part 2 of Article 111 (treason committed in a state of war);
  •  Part 2 of Article 194 (intentional destruction or damage to property).

The offender is under detention without the right to bail. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property. Comprehensive measures were carried out by SBU officers in the Vinnytsia region in collaboration with the National Police under the procedural guidance of the regional prosecutor's office.
