Criminals have set up a network of telegram channels that promoted the ideas of restoring the USSR, disseminated communist symbols, and disregarded the Constitution of Ukraine and any state institutions.
Investigators from Kyiv police, with operational support from the SBU in Kyiv and the Kyiv region, and under the procedural guidance of the Kyiv city prosecutor's office, uncovered the activities of the so-called «Organizing Committee of the USSR».
Law enforcement established that four active participants of this movement produced and distributed prohibited communist symbols, as well as administered telegram channels and chats to coordinate their actions and attract new supporters. Members of these communities created and coordinated the activities of pseudo-state institutions, organized so-called «congresses of Soviet citizens», and adopted their own «laws».
Those involved in the criminal offense include a 58-year-old resident of Chernivtsi, a 45-year-old resident of Mukachevo, a 46-year-old resident of Ivano-Frankivsk, and a 49-year-old resident of Kyiv.
During searches at the suspects' residences, law enforcement seized materials with prohibited symbols, mobile phones, and laptops used for administering the telegram channels.
All individuals involved have been notified of suspicion under part 2 of Article 436-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – manufacturing, distributing communist symbols, and promoting the communist totalitarian regime. The penalty for this article includes imprisonment for up to ten years.
