A trial is set to take place in Kyiv for a man accused of stabbing a pedestrian on Kontraktova Square. Kyiv police investigators have submitted an indictment to the court against a 33-year-old resident of Mykolaiv region who attacked a 31-year-old passerby in the heart of Podil. He faces up to 8 years in prison.
The incident occurred during the summer of this year. Authorities found that the accused, after arriving in Kyiv, stayed in a hostel and repeatedly provoked conflicts with local residents. As a result of another altercation, he inflicted a penetrating stab wound to the abdomen of the 31-year-old Kyiv resident.
Local police officers, operatives, and criminal analysis analysts quickly identified and arrested the attacker under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine, confiscating the knife from him.
The suspect has been charged under Part 1 of Article 121 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – intentional grievous bodily harm. Investigators have gathered sufficient evidence and sent the indictment to the court. The offender faces imprisonment for up to eight years.
