Investigators from the Kyiv police, in collaboration with foreign law enforcement, have arrested a Polish national suspected of sexually exploiting Ukrainian children via social networks, distributing pornographic materials in closed Telegram channels.
The investigation began in Ukraine following reports of an anonymous Telegram account that sent child pornography to a young resident of Kyiv. Police discovered that the suspect had been coercing Ukrainian children into producing pornographic content since 2021 through online platforms by deception.
Capital investigators and operatives identified eight Ukrainian children who were sexually exploited online by the perpetrator. Necessary investigative actions were conducted in accordance with international child-friendly justice standards.
During the pre-trial investigation, police established the identity of the suspect - a 57-year-old citizen of Poland. He used anonymous accounts in the Telegram messenger to find underage Ukrainian girls, engaged in correspondence with them, and deceived them into creating pornographic photo and video materials. The perpetrator also sent children child pornography and zoophilia content, and then encouraged them to create similar materials for “stars” in Telegram.
The criminal proceedings under Article 301-1 (Accessing, acquiring, storing, importing, transporting, or otherwise moving, producing, selling, and distributing child pornography) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine were investigated by the police department for crimes involving children under the procedural guidance of the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office and operational support from the Migration Police Department.
Upon establishing the suspect's identity, police initiated international cooperation with law enforcement agencies from Poland, the United Kingdom, and Europol. Under the direction of the Office of the Prosecutor General, a request for international legal assistance was promptly executed based on the inquiry received from Polish law enforcement.
The materials resulting from the execution of this request served as the basis for obtaining a court order to conduct a search at the suspect's residence in Poland. On October 8 of this year, Polish police detained the suspect. During the search of his residence, computer equipment, mobile phones, and data carriers containing materials indicating the sexual exploitation of Ukrainian children were seized.
On October 10, a Polish court ordered the suspect to be held in custody for three months. Under Polish criminal legislation, he faces a sentence of up to 15 years in prison.
The National Police urges parents and guardians to be vigilant about their children's interactions with strangers in mobile messengers and online platforms and to conduct informative discussions regarding the potential dangers of communicating with unknown individuals hiding behind anonymous accounts.
If you detect any incidents of sexual exploitation or abuse of children, please contact the police immediately.
