After a 26-year-old woman from Kyiv met a man online, she was invited on a date that ended in violence. The assailant brutally beat her and stole money. Law enforcement swiftly captured the suspect, who faces up to fifteen years in prison with asset confiscation.
The victim reported to the police that her date had assaulted her. A task force was dispatched to the scene immediately.
Investigators determined that the man had invited the victim to his apartment for the date. During the encounter, a conflict arose, and the assailant pulled out a gun, threatening her before striking her in the head and kicking her. He then stole 500 hryvnias from her jacket pocket and fled.
Thanks to the coordinated efforts of the police, the 22-year-old suspect was apprehended at his friend’s apartment. A search at his residence uncovered a pneumatic gun. He claimed the attack was due to the victim not resembling her profile pictures from the dating site.
Prosecutors charged him under part 4 of article 187 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – robbery involving violence that is a danger to life. This article carries a penalty of up to fifteen years imprisonment with asset confiscation.
The court has ordered him to be held in custody with the possibility of bail.
