The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has revealed an agent operating within a key energy company, working for the FSB. As a result of extensive measures in the Kyiv region, an IT specialist was apprehended for coordinating Russian attacks on critical infrastructure in the capital.
Investigations have shown that this agent attempted to leak information about the underground data backup centers of his company to the occupiers.
These technological storage facilities are vital for the uninterrupted functioning of Ukraine's energy system.
Additionally, the enemy hoped to obtain geolocations of gas turbine generators set up for alternative energy supply to the capital in the event of damage to electrical substations by Russian forces.
The SBU promptly identified the Russian agent, documented his crimes, and arrested him.
During the search, a smartphone containing evidence of his activities for the enemy was seized.
The agent received tasks from the FSB via a relative who previously led a banned pro-Kremlin party in Ukraine and is currently collaborating with Russian intelligence in the left bank of the Kherson region. In September 2022, this relative received a notice of suspicion for treason from the SBU.
Based on the collected evidence, the SBU informed the energy company official of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (treason committed under martial law).
The offender is in custody, facing life imprisonment with property confiscation. The operation was conducted under the procedural guidance of the Office of the Attorney General.
