In the Obolon district of Kyiv, law enforcement officials have uncovered an underground cannabis cultivation operation set up in a garage. During the raid, they seized 5 kilograms of ready-to-sell cannabis, valued at around one million hryvnias on the black market.
The interregional group involved in the cultivation and distribution of cannabis was exposed by investigators from the police department, in cooperation with the Drug Crime Department of the National Police and under the procedural guidance of the local prosecutor's office.
The offenders were two 37-year-old residents of Kyiv. One of them rented a garage where a specially equipped area for cannabis cultivation was established. After harvesting, the drug was processed and shipped to clients across the country. They also produced cookies containing the narcotic substance for sale.
It was established that the criminals accepted payments electronically and found clients through word-of-mouth. Their estimated monthly profit from this illicit activity was about 500,000 hryvnias.
During searches at the suspects' residences and the garage, law enforcement seized: 5 kilograms of cannabis, 36 cannabis plants, seeds, cookies containing tetrahydrocannabinol, laboratory equipment, and irrigation and lighting systems. Additionally, authorities confiscated two vehicles, mobile phones, a laptop, and handwritten notes. The total value of the seized narcotic 'goods' is estimated at around one million hryvnias on the black market.
Investigators have charged the suspects under part 2 of Article 307 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The court has chosen a preventive measure of detention for one suspect, while the other is under round-the-clock house arrest. Both offenders face up to ten years in prison with asset confiscation.
