The State Bureau of Investigation has launched a criminal case concerning a tragic traffic accident in Kyiv that led to the death of a law enforcement officer.

On Monday, September 8, around 5:50 AM, on Olena Telihy Street, a sergeant from a military unit lost control of his service vehicle, causing it to skid into oncoming traffic. It collided with another car occupied by a police officer. Both the driver and the officer died at the scene from their injuries.

The driver of the service vehicle sustained injuries.

Investigators from the SBI have arrived at the accident site, and several expert examinations have been appointed as they work to establish all circumstances surrounding the incident.

A criminal case has been opened under part 2 of Article 415 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (violating driving rules that resulted in the death of a person).

The procedural oversight is conducted by the Kyiv Specialized Prosecutor's Office in the defense sector of the Central region.
