On October 27, in celebration of the Day of Ukrainian Writing and Language, a national record was established in Ukraine for the most participants writing a dictation with sign language translation. 195 individuals with hearing impairments from across the country took part in the event. This was reported by the head of the National Register of Records, Lana Vetrova.
The dictation was organized by the public organization “Feel”, which focuses on rehabilitation and socialization of individuals with hearing impairments. The event took place at the Kyiv Vocational College of Applied Sciences.
During the writing of the National Unity Radio Dictation, specialists provided sign language translation for participants who joined both offline and online.
“You should have seen how important this was for them – to feel united in this experience! I am confident that sign language should become the second official language in a barrier-free society.
This issue gains particular significance now, as we increasingly encounter soldiers and veterans who have lost their hearing due to injuries. Every one of us should learn sign language – it is essential if we wish to build a society based on understanding and empathy,” emphasized Lana Vetrova.
