Today, December 5, the Kyiv City Council approved a new Development Strategy for Kyiv until 2027. This fundamental document outlines the main directions for the city's development in the coming years. This was announced by the first deputy head of the Kyiv City State Administration, Mykola Povoroznyk.
“The challenges posed by the war required a reassessment of the priorities, goals, and tasks outlined in the previous strategy. During the update, the advantages of Kyiv, which maintains its leadership despite the war due to social focus and growing economic activity, were taken into account. This is a critical foundation for overcoming wartime challenges and transitioning to accelerated post-war recovery,” he noted.
He reminded that over 160 representatives from various sectors, including business, civil society, and local government, worked collaboratively on updating the document. Expert groups revised development priorities and identified further actions regarding the city's life during wartime and post-war recovery.
The Department of Economics and Investments of the Kyiv City State Administration adds that the public actively participated in the update. Residents submitted their proposals regarding priorities for the strategic development of the city until 2027 through the Unified Kyiv Portal and the Kyiv Development Platform.
Thus, the community expressed its views on the most important areas for further development, focusing on a safe, comfortable, and barrier-free environment; sustainable municipal services and transportation; enhancing social protection, supporting defenders of Ukraine, accessibility of educational, medical, and social services, as well as digital services; business support, and job creation; and affirming national identity. The submitted proposals have been maximally considered in the revised Strategy project.
As a result of the collaborative work, the main priorities and strategic goal for Kyiv's development until 2027 have been defined: improving the level of security, community resilience, and quality of life for residents, characterized by a barrier-free safe urban environment, economic prosperity, and comfort of life in a city rich in culture and historical tradition.
The operational objectives and tasks of the Strategy encompass all areas of urban life. At the same time, maximum concentration of resources and activities is directed towards addressing urgent challenges and solving pressing issues in the outlook until 2027.
The updated Strategy also takes into account important aspects such as creating barrier-free spaces and ensuring social inclusion in the city; equal rights and opportunities for women and men; and economic development based on smart specialization.
The Department emphasizes that work is currently underway on the Action Plan for the Strategy's implementation, which will include detailed measures and specific steps aimed at achieving the set goals and fulfilling the defined tasks for Kyiv's development.
