In 2025, Kyiv is set to launch projects aimed at enhancing accessibility at more than 700 locations. This was announced by the press service of the Kyiv City State Administration, citing Kyivavtodor.
Comprehensive renovations will be carried out at each site, including updates to roadways, sidewalks, pedestrian crossings, lighting, utilities, and the development of cycling infrastructure.
Special attention will be given to implementing measures for creating an accessible environment. This includes lowering curbs, installing tactile navigation and ramps, as well as elevators. Representatives from public organizations advocating for people with disabilities will be involved in the inspection of these implementations.
Additionally, a key approach to renovations will remain the linear principle, which entails the comprehensive modernization of not only major transport routes but also adjacent streets. The current repair plan for 2025 includes updates to nearly 50 sites.
Creating a barrier-free and safe environment, particularly at transport infrastructure sites, is part of the systematic work of city services, which is a component of the Action Plan for Creating an Accessible Environment in Kyiv, approved by Mayor Vitali Klitschko. This document outlines specific measures aimed at gradually making Kyiv accessible for all, including executors and effectiveness indicators.
