In Kyiv, a new phase of the program for building modern shelters in educational institutions is underway. This year, more than 5 billion hryvnias have been allocated from the city budget for these efforts. This was reported by Valentyn Mondryiivskyi, the deputy head of the Kyiv City State Administration, during an on-site meeting in the Dnipro District.

“We are constructing shelters according to modern building standards to ensure optimal conditions for students and teachers during wartime. This is part of Mayor Vitalii Klitschko's strategy for children’s safety — new shelters are being built in every district of the city to prepare schools for any challenges,” Mondryiivskyi emphasized.

In the Dnipro District, four protective structures with anti-radiation properties are being constructed. More than 600 million hryvnias have been allocated for their construction this year.

One of the shelters at Lyceum No. 183 “Fortuna,” covering over 3,200 square meters, is designed to accommodate 1,300 people. Almost 70% of the work has already been completed: the foundation is finished, the main structures are erected, waterproofing and roofing installation is underway, and connections to engineering networks are being established. The completion of construction is planned for the end of 2025.

At Gymnasium No. 146, a shelter covering nearly 2,000 square meters will be able to hold 741 individuals. More than 60% of the work has been completed here: the foundation, columns, and outer walls have been constructed, waterproofing has been performed, and ventilation installation and utility connections are ongoing.

The new shelters will be equipped with everything necessary: separate rooms for students of various ages and staff, restrooms, medical points, storage areas for food, and dining spaces. Furthermore, the facilities will be fitted with ventilation systems, fire protection, backup power supply, and will be accessible for individuals with limited mobility.

Additionally, Kyiv continues to work on improving the technical condition of existing protective structures while expanding the network of shelters through the addition of new facilities.
