Bright and talented, Oksana Voronina captivated audiences on the stage of the Lesya Ukrainka National Academic Theater and in cinema. Her life was cut short in 2020, but her legacy continues to thrive in the cultural memory of the nation.
In recent years, the Kyiv City Council has supported the renaming of nearly 300 streets, alleys, and avenues whose names are associated with the aggressor country and the Soviet past. Among these is the Metalists Alley in the Solomyanskyi district.
The alley emerged in the early 20th century in the historic area of Kazennyi Dachi, originally named Petrovskyi, and was renamed Metalists in 1955.
The majority of its low-rise buildings were lost back in the 1980s, so only building No. 1 remains at the alley's address.
Due to the unclear origin of the name “Metalists,” the alley was included in the list of objects that require renaming.
From June 15 to 19, 2022, an electronic voting took place in the “Kyiv Digital” system. The proposal to name the alley in honor of actress Oksana Voronina received the largest support — 6,833 votes, as she had been performing at the Lesya Ukrainka National Academic Theater since 2001.
