The highlight of the festival will be a concert by the famous band KOZAK SYSTEM on the main stage of the museum.

On Sunday, July 13, the National Museum of Folk Architecture and Life of Ukraine invites all Kyiv residents and city guests to the Ukrainian Bread Festival — a grand event dedicated to agricultural traditions, labor culture, and family values.

This year's celebration aims not only to recreate ancient customs but also to immerse guests in the living tradition of the Ukrainian village — to show how bread is born from human labor and love for the native land.

“This festival is about the most important things: the land, the grain, the sweat and patience of the farmer, and the warmth of the home hearth. We want every visitor to not only see but also feel: bread is not just a routine, it is a value,” the organizers state.

You will be able to personally experience the entire journey of a farmer — from harvesting to the fragrant, fresh bread on the table: witness the reenactment of the “zazhyonka” and “obzhynka” rituals; gather wheat, thresh the sheaves, and grind grain on manual mills; taste warm, aromatic bread; and discover with your children where our daily bread comes from.

Also in the program:

  • 14:00 — ceremonial procession from the square to the bread field.
  • 14:15 — “zazhyonka” ritual performed by the vocal group “Yablunevyi Tsvit”.
  • 14:30 — “zazhyonka” ritual by the folk theater “Dobrodei”.
  • 15:00 — “obzhynka” ritual by the groups “Promin” and “Promin Plus”.
  • 15:15 — greetings from the hosts on the completion of the harvest and a master class on folk dance.
  • 15:30 — procession to the mill.
  • 14:00–16:30 — baking fragrant bread in an authentic oven with the participation of the Ukrainian family workshops @openfire.ovens and the bread school @palyanytsyabread.
  • 10:00–17:00 — exhibition “The World of Farming Traditions” (exhibit “Poltava and Slobozhanshchyna”).

For those who want to learn more about Ukrainian agricultural traditions, an interesting lecture will be held. For example, about bakery guilds with coats of arms, the cost of a wedding loaf and vanished flour dishes, why women are mostly depicted harvesting in paintings, how many days a serf took to harvest a hectare of wheat and why the sickle was the main tool until the 20th century. Pre-registration is required for this lecture.

However, the highlight of the festival will be the concert by KOZAK SYSTEM at 17:00 on the main stage of the museum. These artists need no introduction. Their songs are an explosion of energy, freedom, and the Ukrainian spirit. Their music inspires and charges you completely!
