The nephrology and dialysis department at the Kyiv hospital "Okhmatdyt" has been successfully renovated after being damaged by a missile strike in July 2024.

The renovation lasted six months, from November last year to March 2025, as reported by hospital representatives.

The German government provided funding for the restoration.

The updated department includes:

  • a water purification system;
  • technical rooms and restrooms;
  • a dialysis room with six stations equipped with advanced machines;
  • two spaces for performing peritoneal dialysis;
  • a doctors' office.

A solar power station has also been installed on the roof of the hospital to ensure energy during outages.

Additionally, the outpatient clinic has renovated the "Day Surgery" operating block and purchased 30 units of modern medical equipment, including a multifunctional electric surgical table and an anesthesia machine for MRI.

The first medical lift for transporting patients on beds has also been installed, as noted by "Okhmatdyt".

With financial support from the German government, restoration work on other areas of the main hospital complex is ongoing and is expected to be completed by autumn.

"As a result of the Russian attack, the toxicology department suffered the most, with the intensive and apheresis therapy units completely destroyed," stated acting General Director Oleksandr Urin.

Recall that on July 8, 2024, Russian forces targeted the "Okhmatdyt" hospital, resulting in the deaths of two adults, including a doctor.

More than 50 severe injuries and over 300 trauma cases were reported.

The toxicology unit, where children received dialysis, has been completely destroyed.

Nearly all windows in the old surgical block were shattered, with significant damage to two surgical and two somatic departments, as well as the intensive care unit and operating block.

The new building, recently erected, sustained damage in 13 departments, including eight surgical, five oncological, two ICUs, the operating block, and the only hematology laboratory in the country.

In July 2024, the Charity Fund "Okhmatdyt" selected "Bud-Technologies LLC" as the winner of the tender for the hospital's renovation, with a budget of 307 million hryvnias, but the agreement was later canceled.

The Ministry of Health is currently investigating the restoration processes of "Okhmatdyt".

At this time, the Ministry of Health has suspended General Director Volodymyr Zhovnir and appointed Oleksandr Urin as acting General Director.

Later, a supervisory board for the hospital's restoration was approved, with Inna Ivanenko as chair.
