As part of a new peace initiative, the United States will demand that Russia acknowledge Ukraine's right to its own military and defense capabilities, as well as return the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant.
Source: Bloomberg, citing informed sources, reports "European Truth".
Details: Informants have indicated that the US special envoy to President Donald Trump, Steve Witkoff, will raise this issue during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Sources also state that the US wants Russia to return the Zaporizhzhia NPP under Ukrainian control.
Subsequently, according to Trump administration plans, the plant is to come under American control to supply electricity to cities controlled by both Ukraine and Russian occupation, the informants say.
The US also aims to ensure Ukraine free access to the Dnipro River and return Russian-occupied territories in the Kharkiv region under Kyiv's control.
Representatives from the US National Security Council, the State Department, and Witkoff did not respond to requests for comments.
Earlier, media reports indicated that the Trump administration handed Ukraine a one-page document last week in Paris, presented as a "final proposal" for peace settlement. Among other points, the US is prepared to recognize Russian control over Crimea and ease sanctions against Moscow.
President Zelensky stated that Ukraine will not recognize the Russian occupation of Crimea, which is internationally acknowledged as Ukrainian territory.
The Financial Times reports that some European officials fear that disagreements regarding the one-sided "peace deal" project by the Trump administration, which involves recognizing Crimea as part of Russia, could undermine transatlantic security and even disrupt the NATO summit scheduled for late June.
