The special unit of the GUR of Ukraine, known as "Phantoms," successfully downed two Russian Be-12 "Chaika" amphibious aircraft on September 21, 2025, in the temporarily occupied Crimea. This was reported by the Ukrainian intelligence service.
"This marks the first instance of a Be-12 being hit in history. The Be-12 'Chaika' amphibious aircraft is equipped with advanced technology for detecting and combating submarines," the GUR stated.
Along with the two aircraft, during the raid, the Phantoms also targeted an enemy Mi-8 multipurpose helicopter.
According to open sources, the length of the Be-12 'Chaika' exceeds 30 meters, and its wingspan is 29.84 meters. The maximum flight speed of the aircraft is 530 km/h. The first flight of this aircraft occurred in the fall of 1960.
Previously, it was reported that the Phantoms of the GUR had destroyed three Mi-8 helicopters and a Russian radar station in Crimea.
Additionally, the Ukrainian special forces eliminated a Russian 9K317M 'Buk-M3' surface-to-air missile system in the temporarily occupied territory of Zaporizhzhia, valued at $40-50 million.
