After a conversation with Volodymyr Zelensky on May 8, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that discussions between Ukraine and Russia are ongoing.

Quote: "The U.S. demands an ideal unconditional ceasefire lasting 30 days. We hope both nations will respect this and take responsibility for the integrity of these direct negotiations. If the ceasefire is violated, the U.S. and its partners will impose additional sanctions".

Details: Trump reiterated that "thousands of young soldiers are dying every week, and everyone should wish for this to stop".

As president, he remains committed to ensuring peace between Russia and Ukraine alongside European allies, and it must be a lasting peace.
