YouTube has begun testing a new tool for content creators that enables the addition of co-authors to their videos. According to Engadget, this feature resembles the collaborative posting mechanisms seen in Instagram and TikTok. Its primary goal is to facilitate mutual promotion of channels among diverse audiences.

Main authors will be able to specify other co-authors for a video, and their names will appear alongside the main author’s name on the channel page. If there are many co-authors, the mobile version will display the phrase “...and others,” which will open the full list of individuals with “Subscribe” buttons.

The process of adding a co-author to a video will likely be similar to that of Instagram and TikTok: the main content author will need to send an invitation that the other author must approve. It is also currently unknown whether co-authors will have access to the video statistics that the main author can see.

As stated by a Google representative on the YouTube Help forum, this feature is currently available only to a limited number of users. YouTube plans to consider feedback from testers before making a decision regarding a broader rollout of the feature.
