Google has announced that it will not terminate support for all goo.gl shortened URLs created through its Google URL Shortener service, contrary to earlier announcements.

On August 1st, the company confirmed that links will remain active despite prior notifications about potential deactivation. Google emphasized that many of these links are embedded in various documents, videos, and posts, which led to the decision being changed based on user feedback.

In July of last year, Google had reported plans to deactivate all goo.gl links by August 25, 2025, citing a decrease in their usage. According to the company, over 99% of these addresses had seen no traffic recently.

However, the company is now adjusting its plans – only those links that had no activity since the end of 2024 will be deactivated. Links that continue to receive traffic will remain accessible.
